We had a full house at our April meeting – even with the delayed start time! We had three guests and welcomed one new member – Billie M.
Meeting Winners! Congratulations to both our winners this month!
Committee Updates
St. Johns County Schools Project: The guild is partnering with a special needs class for young adults and a group of residents at a senior center to create a simple quilt. This will be on display at the senior center following its completion. The project will be done on either a Monday or Friday in late April or early June – depending on our volunteers’ availability. The volunteers are meeting online 4/17. Send an email to jaxmqg@gmail.com if you want to join the call.
Challenges: The scrap bag challenge is due at the May meeting.
A new challenge was introduced this month – What Comes to Your Mind?. You will make a quilt in response to the quote, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Quilts are due at the July meeting.
More details on each of these is on the Challenges webpage.
Clay County Library Project: What a fabulous display we had this month of quilts for the Clay County library summer reading program! Twelve quilts were presented to library representatives. Thanks to all who participated!!!
QuiltFest Guild Quilt: Several members worked at the last sit and sew day sewing together the blocks for our QuiltFest guild quilt. The top is done and is going to be quilted this month. It’s turning out fabulous!
Upcoming Events
June No Frills Retreat: The June No Frills retreat will be from June 5-8 at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Orange Park. This retreat has no catered meals, no games, and no planned group projects. It is an opportunity to sit and sew for four days with your friends. The cost for Jax MQG members will be $140 and $170 for nonmembers. Registration for members is now open and opens May 1 for nonmembers (pending availability). If you want to book a room at the hotel, use code MODS for a discounted rate. Select here to book a room with the discount.
Maria Shell Game of Improv Workshop: The Maria Shell has a couple of open spots still. More information and registration can be found here: https://jaxmqg.com/2025/02/15/maria-shell-game-of-improv-workshop/workshop-events/.
Quiltfest: Quilt registration is now open. Cost is $20 per quilt. Register your quilts by July 25. However, they don’t need to be done by then – you have until September 6 when quilts are turned in. Let’s fill the Modern Quilt Category again!
There is a QuiltFest Sewcial at Calico Station on April 26 from 11-3. We need a couple of volunteers to sit at the JAXMQG table during the event.
We had updates from two QuiltFest committee representatives – Boutique and Volunteers. See our QuiltFest page or the QuiltFest website for more information on these two items as well as all things QuiltFest related.
