Committee Updates
St. Johns County Schools Project: The guild partnered with a special needs class for young adults and a group of residents at a senior center to create a simple quilt. Alison shared some stories of their time at the senior center about how meaningful this was to some of the participants. They had enough blocks to make two small matching quilts that will be on display at the senior center.
Challenges: The scrap bag challenge was turned in at the May meeting. The blocks are going to make a beautiful quilt!
No challenges due in June, but the What Comes to Your Mind? challenge quilt is due at the July meeting. More details is on the Challenges webpage.
QuiltFest Guild Quilt: The quilting is done and added fabulous texture to the quilt. Now it’s off for binding.
Monthly Sit and Sews: After considering the responses from the survey, it was decided that the monthly sit and sews will become quarterly meeting on August 2 and November 8. Clay county libraries is going to have a room open the other Saturdays for the community to sew if they desire. Check the Clay county library website for specific dates and times.
Quiltfest: Quilt registration is now open. Cost is $20 per quilt. Register your quilts by July 25. However, they don’t need to be done by then – you have until September 6 when quilts are turned in. JaxMQG will have a basket (or more) at the quilter’s walk. The committee has asked members to bring donations of modern-quilting related items at the June, July, or August meetings.
Bylaws: The bylaws committee worked hard since last year to update our bylaws to reflect what we do, align us with MQG, and meet QuiltFest’s requirements for updated bylaws. They also added a code of conduct that MQG recommends each guild has. At the meeting the floor was open for questions and discussion. There was some discussion regarding insurance needs that will be taken up by the committee members and an insurance expert who is a guild member. This didn’t affect the vote, however. The guild voted on the changes and the new code of conduct at the May meeting and unanimously approved them! Thanks to the committee for all your hard work! Upcoming Events
June No Frills Retreat: The June No Frills retreat will be from June 5-8 at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Orange Park. This retreat has no catered meals, no games, and no planned group projects. It is an opportunity to sit and sew for four days with your friends. The cost for Jax MQG members will be $140 and $170 for nonmembers. Registration for members is now open and opens May 1 for nonmembers (pending availability). If you want to book a room at the hotel, use code MODS for a discounted rate. Note that with everything else going on this fall, it was decided to cancel the October No Frills retreat. Look for another one coming in 2026 though!
June Meeting: We are having our summer party at the June meeting! We’ll have light refreshments and play games. Bring three $1 bills to play left-right-center, your drink, and your block for the group quilt if you picked one up at the May meeting. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so HERE so the party committee knows how much food to buy.

May Program
Josh McLean from Cut Up & Sew talked to the guild about his shop and asked for input on what we would like to see there. Following a lively discussion, he showed some beautiful art quilts he has made.
