Committee Updates
Quiltfest: QuiltFest is just around the corner. Thanks to everyone who has signed up to volunteer! If you want to see what volunteer spots are still available, click here. Remember, you get into QuiltFest free the day you volunteer.
Thanks to everyone who donated items to our baskets. They look amazing!
Community Outreach: Word is getting around about the great things our guild does! We will be partnering with the Cummer Museum, Duval County Main Library, and Clay County for some exciting events.
Cummer Museum Programs: The Cummer Museum has asked us to team with them again for two different programs this fall. These look like they’re going to be fabulous!
Event #1: Slow stitch WATER scene postcard size quilt workshop!
Tuesday Nov 4 @ 4:30 – 7:30
This make & take event compliments the upcoming Cummer Museum exhibit by artist Calida Rawles : Away with the Tides! We will teach workshop participants beginner hand stitching and a technique to create a postcard size quilt with a WATER scene using fabrics, felt, needle, thread, and embellishments.
Event #2: Slow stitch NATURE themed fiber art with Cummer Teens Art program! There are two sessions:
Saturday Oct 18 @ 1pm – 4pm
Saturday Nov 15 @ 1 pm – 4pm
JAXMQG will be a guest artist working with 20 teens accepted into the 2025 / 2026 Cummer Teen Art program! Volunteer guild members will teach the teens beginner hand stitching and a technique to create a small 8 x 12 fiber art quilt with a nature-based theme using fabrics, felt, needle, thread, and embellishments.
Contact Lisa H. if you have questions.
Airing of the Quilts: For the last couple of years, we have held the Airing of the Quilts at Camp Chowenwaw in Clay County. The date for this year’s event is October 11. We need some volunteers to help organize the day’s event. If you are interested, send and email to jaxmqg@gmail.com.
Duval County Main Library: The Duval County Main library has a space where they display artwork. They contacted our guild about the possibility of having a display of modern quilts. We have submitted our proposal and are waiting to hear back from them.
FSS and Hospice: We are still collecting quilts for foster children at Family Social Services and fidget quilts for Community Hospice. FSS is especially in need of lap or twin size quilts for teens aging out of the foster system. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far this year!
Challenges: Congratulations to Tiffany who won the beautiful log cabin blocks! I didn’t get a picture, so hopefully we’ll get to see a completed quilt sometime in the future.
Next month’s challenge is to bring a UFO that you have. You’ll randomly swap for another one and then bring the completed quilt to the October meeting. The quilts will then be donated to FSS to the foster kids. More details are on the Challenges webpage.
Education: We voted on our 2027 class preferences. Were you able to narrow your choices down to just five? That was tough! If you weren’t at the meeting or were unable to make up your mind at this meeting, voting will continue at the September meeting. See the choices here.
Cindy Grisdela Workshop: Registration for the Cindy Grisdela Abstracting from Art workshop on 11/1 will open 8/23 at 10:00. Cost is $40 for guild members.
Calendar of Events Taking Place by the September Meeting
8/23: Cindy Grisdela workshop registrations for members

9/18-9/20: QuiltFest

Linda Hungerford gave us a fascinating lecture and trunk show on different types of big stitch quilting. We learned about different styles from around the world and then got to try it ourselves. Check out her website here.
