Our October meeting was another full house of excitement and fun with 51 members, 4 visitors, and 1 new members! Big welcome to visitors Vicki R., Tina E., Marcia D., Joan O., and Diane B. and we hope to see them again! We also extend a warm welcome to NEW member Jill ! Donna T. challenged members to create a piece using a Maximalist Design. You all did not disappoint! Check out the group photo below. Sarah S. brought in a fabulous Pop-Up Shop and members enjoyed shopping and finding all sorts of new things that they never knew they needed! Along with the Pop-up Shop, Sarah S. taught those who stayed for the demo how to make the adorable Mini Wallet pattern by Valorie Wells. She had some great tips on how to make the little wallets even easier to construct. Marcia T. brough some of the stash that belonged to a friend who had passed away and raised money to go back to the family. Thank you to those of you who helped Marcia help the family in their time of need.
IT IS OFFICIAL!!! JaxMQG is the newest member of the Seven Sister Guilds that host Jacksonville QuiltFest!
President, Candi L., has signed the proposal and our one-time $350 entry fee has be submitted to the QuiltFest Board. Quiltfest information and volunteer opportunities will be discussed in future meetings. Candi also confirmed Quiltfest JAX will vote to add a MODERN DESIGN quilt category in 2024!!!!
2024 QuiltFest Board: We will need 6 representatives to join the QuiltFest Board and be the voice of JaxMQG at the board meetings as well as relay pertinent information back to our members. The QuiltFest Board typically meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm at Community Hospice on Sunbeam Rd in Mandarin. We had quite a few members show an interest in being representatives for JaxMQG on the QuiltFest Board when we initially sent out the proposal to joining the other 6 Sister Guilds. We strongly encourage everyone interested to attend the January QuiltFest Board meeting to learn what might be expected and what all QuiltFest is asking of us. The QuiltFest meeting on January 16th is open to anyone interested so please mark your calendar now.
2024 Board elections: Christina F. and Laura B. volunteered to serve as the election committee. Christina F. announced the members who have thus volunteered to serve on the Board in 2024:
President: Sarah S.
Vice-President: Abbey J.
Secretary: Lisa H.
Treasurer: Robbie K.
If you would like to run against any of these volunteers or if you would like to nominate someone to run against the volunteers, please call Christina F. before the November meeting.
Airing of the Quilts: A HUGE Thank you to Abbey J. and Lisa H. for representing JaxMQG and successfully executing an amazing vision! The Airing of the Quilts was a beautiful event and we cannot wait for next year! Mark your calendars now for October 12th 10a-2p at Camp Chowenwaw in Green Cove Springs. We missed Lisa at the meeting on Sunday!
2024 Volunteer Teams: Candi circulated the sign up sheet for 2024 volunteers again this month for those members who may have missed it in September. Thanks to the many members that signed up to work in various guild roles! Volunteers are key to the guild success and a perfect way to meet friends and keep the guild awesome!
JAXMQG website membership directory: Candi reminded members to update their password and complete profiles (including a photo please)! The new secure membership directory is a great resource for contacting guild members! If you have questions please contact Candi or Lisa H.
Reminder: NEW GUILD MEETING LOCATION STARTING JANUARY 2024! The new meeting space is centrally located and very spacious so perfect for our growing guild! The address is 4001 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207 (Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church) . Stay tuned for more meeting details. Holiday Party Sneak Peek: Franci and a few of the Party Committee members gave us a sneak peek of what we can expect for the Fun & Fancy Holiday Party that they’ve been planning for us on December 17th! The party theme is Fun & Fancy and our color palate will be Silver & Gold with hints of Black & Gray. So think very Sparkly and Classy. Everyone is encouraged to dress to party and have fun.
Optional Party Homework:
Mystery Swap: Keeping up with the tea cup theme from June, Eve has challenged members to make a Mug Rug (aprox 6″x8″) using a Cup Theme. These can be paper pieced, created using cup fabric, collage quilted, applique, etc. The sky is the limit. Eve did mention that if you plan to add 3-dimentional embellishments, they should be added along the outside edges so as not to topple a cup that may be placed on top of the mug rug. Please WRAP your mystery swap!
Star Blocks: There are two star blocks that we encourage members to make so that we can put them together for donation quilts. The first Star is a wonky Confetti Star that is foundation paper pieced using a Black background and Silver for the star itself. The second is a 12″ Sawtooth Star using Midnight Blue for the background and Gold for the star itself. Christina F. sent out an email earlier today with PDF patterns attached for BOTH star blocks.
Left, Right, Center: Please bring 3 Fat-Quarters in any of the following colors… Yellow, Gray, Black, or Low Volume.
The October member show and tell was spectacular, as always! Enjoy the photos!!!
You all did a fabulous job on your Maximalist Challenge pieces!!
