JAXMQG September meeting: momentous vote & funky faces!

Our September meeting was a full house of excitement and fun with 46 members, 5 visitors, and 2 new members! Big welcome to visitors Vicki R., Tina E., Marcia D., Joan O., and Diane B. and we hope to see them again! We also extend a warm welcome to NEW members Jill K., and Lisa S.! The meeting began by discussing several momentous guild updates and ended with a super fun funky faces collage demo by member Deb B.

IT IS OFFICIAL!!! QUILTFEST JAX proposal accepted!

JAXMQG members voted in favor of the Quiltfest Jacksonville proposal to join the sister guilds that sponsor the local quilt show. Thanks to Sarah S. for facilitating the email voting! Here is link to the voting results: JAXMQG voting results for Quiltfest proposal

President Candi L. will sign the proposal to submit to the Quiltfest board along with the $350 entry fee. Quiltfest information and volunteer opportunities will be discussed in future meetings. Candi also confirmed Quiltfest JAX will vote to add a MODERN DESIGN quilt category in 2024!!!!

NEW GUILD MEETING LOCATION STARTING JANUARY 2024! The new meeting space is centrally located and very spacious so perfect for our growing guild! The address is 4001 Hendricks Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32207 (Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church) . Stay tuned for more meeting details. Again, BIG thanks for member Margaret D. for making this happen for the guild!

2024 Board elections: Christina F. and Laura B. volunteered to serve as the election committee. If you are interested in the President or VP position for 2024 please let Christina or Laura aware.

2024 Volunteer teams: Candi circulated the sign up sheet for 2024 volunteers. Thanks to the many members that signed up to work in various guild roles! The sign up sheet will be passed again at the October meeting. Volunteers are key to the guild success and a perfect way to meet friends and keep the guild awesome!

JAXMQG website membership directory: Candi reminded members to update their password and complete profiles (including a photo please)! The new secure membership directory is a great resource for contacting guild members! If you have questions please contact Candi or Lisa H.

Funky Faces collage demo by Deb B. Many thanks to Deb for a super fun and creative demo! She certainty taught us to look at fabrics with fresh eyes! Several members brought supplies and created cute face collages!

AIRING OF THE QUILTS (10am to 1pm) – September 30 at Camp Chowenwaw / 1517 Ball Rd, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043.

Abbey J. passed around a sign up sheet for members attending the event and bringing quilts to hang. If you didn’t sign up you can still attend and bring quilts. Plan to arrive by 9:30am to have your quilt(s) hung. Each member can bring 2 quilts and 1 or 2 small art quilts. Invite your family and friends to share in this community event. There is a playground and crafts for the kids! Feel free to bring a picnic lunch and some handwork. Please see the facebook event and Instagram posts for all the details! Challenges:

Maximalist challenge (hosted by Donna T. ) is due at the October meeting! The challenge is make a mini quilt using the Maximalist Mini Tutorial on the MQG website.

Stripes or Lines challenge (new challenge hosted by Robbie K.) is due at November meeting! Project can be any size, any item, pattern or original design– just be sure to include stripes or lines! Maker will keep project. There will be prizes for those that participate!

October 21 : Saturday group sew at South Mandarin library 10am – 5pm

October 29 : Monthly Guild meeting with LITTLE WALLET making by Sarah S (pattern purchase required – see Sarah) More details in upcoming newsletter!
