Jacksonville Modern Quilt Guild definitely had a banner year!! BIG THANKS to our awesome 2022 board. Candi L., Franci S., Margaret P., and Laura B. did a great job! Also many many thanks to all of our members that presented workshops, coordinated events, attended meetings with smiling faces, participated in activities, engaged in our community outreach, and showed us your amazing quilts each month!
We had astounding membership growth in 2022! We started the year with 40 members and ended the year with 72 members!!!
Our meeting programs were inspiring with a diverse range of topics such as: Spiral quilting demo (Candi L.), Modern quilting concepts & navigating MQG site (Candi L.), How to sandwich a big quilt on a small table (Franci S.), Fabric Collage (Deb B.), Quilted Name tags (Christie R), Landscape quilts (Christina F.), and Big Stitch trunk show (MaryAnn M.).
Our monthly challenges provided creative opportunites for block making that included: beer labels, patriotic, black/white with our favorite color, use color that starts with same first letter of name (plus black or white), stars on dark background, selvedge, and also small hanging hearts for hospice.
The guild had a spectacular line up of professional classes with Maria Shell (Riffing on Tradition), Mel Beach (Intriguing Interleaves), Daisy Aschehoug (Giant nest curves) and David Owens Hastings (Inspired by Architecture).
JAXMQG members had a great time at the JAX QUILTFEST booth. We met so many new faces and enjoyed the vendors, quilt displays, and activities! JAXMQG members entered 22 quilts with 4 ribbons awarded!
Wow–JAXMQG had 2 lively parties and one stellar retreat! In July we had a fun summer splash party and in December a very festive holiday party! Our September quilting retreat held at Marywood Retreat Center was over the top fun with games, laughs, and quilty friendships!
JAXMQG certainly has very generous members that participated in our Community Outreach. In 2022 JAXMQG guild members donated a total of 793 quilted items which included: quilts, weighted blankets, fidget quilts, and hanging hearts. We donated to veterans, foster care children, seniors, women support, and more. Below is the quarterly breakdown:
Quarter 1= 47 / Quarter 2= 162 / Quarter 3= 109 / Quarter 4= 475 **includes 384 hospice hanging hearts!
In addition, the guild held an opportunity quilt event which raised $3325.50 for UKRAINE UNICEF. Paula F. and Kim B. coordinated a sock drive for City Rescue Mission and members donated a whopping 617 pairs! The guild also collaberated to create a stunning quilt for the 2023 MQG community outreach challenge.
We are beyond grateful for our wonderful guild members! 2023 is shaping up to be another exciting year for JAXMQG! Keep on stitching and we look forward to seeing everyone in the new year! We wish all a happy, healthy, and creative 2023!!
