We had a full house with 57 members attending the JAXMQG September meeting! We were excited to welcome 6 visitors to our meeting: Debra S., Shirley A., Teri S., Geri W., Deb W., and Emma W.. We hope to see each of you again and possibly join us as a member! President Sarah announced that the guild now has 105 guild members!!!

New features at meeting! Members can easily stay informed of all guild activities by checking out the guild communication board that will be set up at each meeting. Make a note or take a photo of the activities that interest you! On each meeting table there will be a printed copy of the latest newsletter. Guild board position opening for 2025! The guild needs a member to volunteer for the Secretary position in 2025 (replacing member Lisa H.). Elections will take place in October so if interested please contact contact nomination chair member Christina F. (Christinafloresfiberartist@gmail.com). If there are specific questions about the secretary position, please contact Lisa H. (lghamilton@bellsouth.net) or any member of the board.
JAXMQG AIRING OF THE QUILTS will be held OCTOBER 12, 2024 from 10am to 2pm. This is a FUN community event located at Camp Chowenwaw 1517 Ball Rd, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. This is a family friendly event with fun activities for children. Please bring your family and invite friends to this special event to enjoy the beautiful river front park with our JAXMQG quilts hanging in the park! This year there will be increased outdoors display space and even more indoor displays as well. Each member can display 3-4 pieces per person. There are opportunities to display smaller pieces along the walkways so please think about that in addition to larger quilts. Members can bring quilts the day of the event. If members are unable to attend the event, they can make arrangements to drop them off with Abbey or Sarah prior to the event. Please make sure your quilts are tagged with your name so we know who to give the quilts back to.
There are several opportunities for members to assist with this fun event- Please notify Sarah or Abbey if you can help.
OCT 11 : A couple of volunteers are needed to help hang the clothesline
OCT 12: A few volunteers are needed to help hang quilts early the morning. Also need a few members that are willing to walk around and speak with the community if they have questions about quilts or the Guild. We will need members to bring or allow us to borrow quilt ladders too. Please let Abbey and Sarah know if you have Quilt Ladders, Rocking Chairs, or other methods to display our quilts.
We need 3-5 yards of children themed fabric, 3-5 yards of steam-a-seam and help with Community quilt assembly!
Clay County Library hosted events include:
Story Time– “The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt”. Abbey J. announced that JAXMQG is donating the book.
Community Quilt- “The Hands that Make a Community” ! Visitors will have the opportunity to trace their handprint on pre-fused fabric and write their name or decorate inside their handprint, then after the event we will cut out the handprints to fuse to a background.
Paper Blocks– Cut out construction paper, color, draw, or make their own creation to take with them.
Clay County Park Hosted Events- Spooky Guided Trail Hike and Wetlands hike – hosted by the park ranger and more details to come.

2025 Committee Sign-ups: 2025 guild committee sign ups began at the September meeting and will be continued at the October meeting. Please sign up to help our guild have a stellar 2025! Current Committee Leaders, please document any supplies, expenses that your group used, had to purchase, or would have liked having this year. Please send that information asap to the guild email: jaxmqg@gmail.com This will help the board develop a more accurate budget for next year. CHALLENGES! Abbey J. was the lucky winner of the modern quarter log cabin September challenge blocks! Many members made amazing blocks for the challenge and what a stunning quilt this will make!
A new challenge for PUMPKIN blocks was announced by Eve V. The pumpkin blocks can be made at 12.5 or 6.5 size. Please bring your blocks to the October meeting. The block is a snowball with a strip! Spectacular September show & tell! We have the very best show & tell so it’s always the highlight of our meetings! There were so many inspirational projects shown by our very talented members!! Thanks to Adele R. for the photos and Laura B. for organizing the show!
SNEAK PEEK of the community quilt blocks made by Cummer Museum Fabric of a Nation exhibit visitors! Now that the JAXMQG quilting programs have concluded it is time to finish the community quilt! The top is together and the team will continue to finish the quilt! Cummer Museum will be offered first option to have the quilt. Check out the very cool design:

SEPTEMBER PROGRAM: THANKS to member Karen K. for a FUN demonstration how to make Nicholas Ball style Shoals improv FISH using his improv curves and triangle units! Best fishes to our members that try this fun technique and we can’t wait to sea your creations!
