Happy 2022! January Meeting Recap

JAXMQG is starting off the new year with a bang! 27 talented quilters were in attendance yesterday; 4 of which were visitors when they entered, members when they left, making the guild 41 members strong as of today. Welcome to our new members who joined the guild yesterday: Sandra, Susan, Penny and Eve. And welcome to new members who attended our meeting for the first time yesterday: Sherry, Sylvia and Eva. And not to forget a HUGE welcome back to all our long-standing members who renewed for 2022! The guild is a better group with you all in it.

The guild held the officer elections yesterday, 5 new officers were installed without opposition, and with much enthusiasm on the electing members part I should add! As it stands for 2022, the officers are as follows:

  • President: Candi Lennox
  • Vice President/s: Franci Sheffiled & Kate Alicea
  • Treasurer: Margaret Partyka
  • Secretary: Laura Bezares

In addition to the officers, the board consists of the following committee chairs:

  • Membership: Stephanie Doaner
  • Education: Candi Lennox
  • Communication/Social Media: Lisa Hamilton
  • Charity and Community Outreach: Lisa Hamilton
  • Challenges/ Swaps/ UFOs: Laura Bezares
  • Retreat/Special Events: Franci Sheffield

Still seeking a chair for a Hospitality committee and until the chair is installed, officers will divide hospitality responsibilities between themselves. Any members interested in joining any committee, please reach out!

And speaking of Franci, she was a busy bee this month finishing off 11 UFOs! If you want to be like Franci and get inspired to finish some of your own UFOs, you can join the guild’s UFO club! Fill out a sheet with 10 of your UFOs, pay $10, finish said UFOs and show them off. Laura will mark each UFO on your page as you finish it, and at the end of the year, your name will go into a drawing for each finished UFO. Winner gets half of the money that went into the UFO club fund, and the guild keeps the other half. Talk to Laura if you are interested in participating.

Check out the guild’s FB and IG pages for more photos from show and tell!

There will be no monthly meeting in February as the guild will be hosting the fabulous Maria Shell to teach the Riffing on Traditions Workshop. Class is sold out and only open to members who signed up for it.

Upcoming Sit & Sew: Saturday February 19 AND Saturday March 19th from 10-2:30 at Pablo Creek Library.

Next Meeting: March 27th at 2 PM at Spring Glen United Methodist Church.

Until we meet again, happy quilting!

Candi
