August Meeting Recap

Our August meeting had another great turnout! Thanks ladies!

Becky reviewed the minutes of our July meeting, followed by the Treasurer’s report from Yvonne. Margaret Partyka was introduced as the new chairperson for the UFO’s (unfinished objects).

Quilt Fest Jax is 9/20/18 – 9/22/18 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center, 1000 Water St, Jacksonville, FL. Sew Modern Chicky will have a vendor booth and our Jax MQG will be at her booth handing out cards and information about our guild. Hopefully we can drum up some new members! On Saturday 9/22/18 we are encouraging our existing members who attend to wear their JaxMQG shirts and bring their JaxMQG totes to shop with. Stop by the Sew Modern Chicky booth on Saturday with either your shirt on or your totebag and she’ll give you a free fat quarter of your choice! If you’ve entered a quilt in Quilt Fest Jax remember to have it dropped off on 9/8/18 if you chose the Senior Center as your drop off!

Quiltcon 2019 in Nashville TN is right around the corner! If you’re entering a quilt in Quiltcon the entries are due by 11/30/18. There are a few other challenges to participate in at Quiltcon such as, The 2-color Quilt Challenge, Michael Miller Quilt Challenge and there is a mini quilt swap. The Modern Quilt Guild has revamped their website….check it out here…. https://www.themodernquiltguild.com/ There’s lots to see and it’s much easier to navigate. Remember, they have webinars, tutorials, free patterns, challenges and a great online community!

Our Quiltcon Charity Quilt “Sea Glass Tessalation” is coming along nicely! Thanks to all of you who’ve turned in your blocks, are working on block and took MORE blocks! They are a lot of work, but it’s going to be worth it! Please bring your completed blocks to the next 2 sit ‘n sews on 9/1/18 and 9/15/18 and our September meeting. There are about 10 more block kits that can be given out if anyone wants one!

Yvonne then revealed some information about our Jax MQG retreat!! It is going to be 10/25/28 – 10/27/18 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 400 Penman Rd, Neptune Beach. Set those dates aside! She will be doing a separate and more detailed blog post about the retreat soon. Just suffice it to say it will be EPIC! Food, snacks, classes, prizes, more snacks, banter and food, oh and sewing LOL

Also…..our meeting space is also moving to Christ United Methodist Church! YAY! So our next meeting on 9/30/18 will be at this new location.
