As Jen puts the finishing touches on the first wave of Quilts for Pulse, we have officially kicked off the second wave.
Sew-Ins scheduled for this weekend are as follows:
Friday, July 8, 9:00 am to 2:30 pm at the Neptune Beach Senior Activity Center (NBSAC) and hosted by Yvonne Wecker and Michelle Lemmers from Coastal Quilters.
Sunday, July 10, 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm at Ladybug Quilt Shop on Casset Avenue and hosted by Rikki Jameson, owner of Ladybug,
Monday, July 11, 4:00 pm until 9:00 at LadyBug and hosted by Robin McCallister, President of JAXMQG.
We are planning something fantabulous for all Jacksonville quilters to get involved sometime in September. So please stay tuned for more on that.
Today’s Sew In with Coastal Quilters had a total of 17 members and visitors gathered for many hours pouring our love and passion into these beautiful quilts. We are expecting to complete more than 20 quilts during the second wave.
At last nights Coastal Quilters Meeting Show and Tell, Martha Swallow surprised all of us when she presented her completed Quilt for Pulse, aptly named “Heartfelt.”

At today’s Sew-In, we collected two completed quilt tops.

Erin started this beautiful strip pieced heart quilt as part of another project some time ago. When she heard we were making Heart Quilts for Pulse, she finished the quilt top and donated it to our stack today.

“From the Heart” is truly a collaborative labor of love. This quilt top was started last week as a group project from: Dianne Anderson, Sue Hart, Carole Jackson, Betty Myers, Jane Shad and Judy Sweat and finished today with the added help of Debbie Dixon.

Here are a few blocks made and added to our stack:

Martha continue to churn out finished blocks, this time changing up the pattern to use an “Urban Zoologie” charm pack.
Ann Carroway dug deep into her luscious batik stash and came to today’s Sew In with all her fabric cut.

Anne enlisted some willing quilters enabling her to get more than half of the 40 blocks made. Jane Shad moved right on over when her top was complete. Patti Sanders and Karen Bradley worked on piecing:

while Linda Garonski trimmed and pressed the blocks

Here is Karen attempting improv piecing of all the small batik scraps (from Linda). First time for everything, right Karen. She plans to complete the back for the Batik Quilt.

Of course we had three JAXMQG members at the Sew In. Robin arrived to the delight of all. This was amazing since she was just discharged from Baptist Hospital late Wednesday afternoon. Now that’s dedication. Here she is pondering her red stash.

Sara spent the day cutting her fabrics and will work on the piecing at home and at next Friday’s Sew in.

Packing up all our stuff to go to Sew Ins is never a simple feat. Sara clearly depicts how we all roll!!

I’ll post more photos and progress after Sunday and Monday’s Sew Ins. Then we come on back to Neptune Beach on Friday, July 15th. So with more updates to come, stay tuned. Or better yet, come on and join us.
