JAXMQG October meeting details!

The JAXMQG October meeting overflowed with fun and creative energy! We had 33 members and 6 visitors in attendance. We are super excited to have 3 new members join the guild : WELCOME to Angela W, Symone W, and Karen K our newest members! We loved having so many visitors join us at the meeting : Helen, Louise, Diana, Emma, Kim, and Lavada. We hope to see you again at the November meeting!

Meeting Summary:

September 2023 JAXMQG RETREAT: Candi provided retreat details with members via email and social media alerts. Registration was open at the October meeting and signs ups were very swift! The retreat is expected to be sold out very soon. Please act quickly and pay deposit if you want one of the remaining seats at the retreat.

-JAXMQG Officer Election : Candi announced it is time for 2023 board elections. Kathy M. will serve as the nomination point of contact. If interested in President, Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer please contact Kathy M. The election will take place at the November meeting.

-JAXMQG volunteers: Candi distributed a sign up sheet for various volunteers spots and received great response— THANKS to EVERYONE that signed up to help in a volunteer role! If you didn’t sign up for a volunteer spot but want to be engaged with the guild then please contact Candi for more information on available opportunities.

OCTOBER CHALLENGE was Creative Hearts for Hospice — 339 hearts were turned by our members! We definitely exceeded our goal of 100 hearts! Two winners were given a prize for making the most hearts :Congratulations to HELEN R. who made 109 hearts and DIANA D. who made 100 hearts!! Everyone did a really great job making hearts!

CONGRATULATIONS to EMMA F. as the lucky winner of a fabulous door prize!

ACCIDENTAL LANDSCAPE workshop: Member Christina F. provided a FUN demo/workshop for creating landscape art quilts (based on the Accidental Landscape book by Karen Eckmeier ). Christina shared many fun techniques, tricks, and tips! Everyone had a great time and will bring the completed landscape quilts to the November meeting for a show!

Candi’s in progress DESERT landscape looks great- We can’t wait to see the finished piece!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

NOVEMBER Sit and Sew: November 19 from 10- 2:30 at the Pablo Creek Library

NOVEMBER monthly meeting: Due to Thanksgiving holiday the next meeting is in just a couple of weeks on November 13 at Spring Glen United Methodist Church at 2 PM. After the meeting there will be a Kawandi/big stitch demo by MaryAnn Ming. Franci will also share details for the December festive holiday party!
