The July meeting of the Jax Modern Quilt Guild was held at the Neptune Beach Activity Center on July 29, 2018. It was the kick-off for the charity quilt the guild is making for Quiltcon 2019 in Nashville TN. There wasn’t a formal meeting but there WAS a PARTY!!

The afternoon started with a delicious sandwich buffet that included lots of side dishes and desserts contributed by the members. The big hit was Sara David’s ‘smores brownies and she promised to give us the recipe to include on this blog!
While everyone was enjoying lunch, the color palette and design for the Quiltcon Charity Quilt was introduced. The theme this year is “Tiny Pieces” and the colors range from white/cream, teal/green to pink/purple. The guild will collaborate and make tiny pieced improvisational blocks to put together into the design.

As everyone finished up with lunch, we held a “Name the Quiltcon Charity Quilt” contest. All members were invited to review the design and submit a name for the board’s consideration. The winning name is actually a combination of two entries: Mary Schramm’s “Sea Glass” and Sara David’s “A Tessellation of Minds”. The final name is “Sea Glass Tessellation”!!! Both ladies won $20.00 gift certificates to Sew Modern Chicky’s fabric store!
Members then had the opportunity for show and tell. Leslee Burch, Stephanie Overbaugh, Cindy Souders and Margaret Douglas all had beautiful projects to share.
We then discussed our 2018 Un-Finished Objects (UFO) challenge and Mary Schramm had several gorgeous quilts she recently completed in response to the challenge. There were 21 UFO entries this month!!! Winners for the drawing were Margaret Partyka, Mary Schramm, Leslee Burch and Paula Hagan.
After lunch was finished, it was time to shop!! As an education fundraiser, the guild had Jax MQG tee shirts and canvas bags available for purchase. The guild made well over $100 to go towards future programming!!!
Sew Modern Chicky also had goods for sale. There was a pop-up shop with lots of modern fabric yardage and bundles, sewing themed enamel pins, note cards and patterns. The shop was hoppin’!

Unfortunately all good things come to an end, but not before we had the funniest “Yankee Swap” fat quarter exchange. That was the best! So much “stealing” and “conspiring” going on. There were a LOT of laughs!

Thanks to all the members for making this meeting/party so enjoyable.
