June Meeting Shenanigans- Meeting Recap

We had a full house at our June meeting with 21 members in attendance along with 4 visitors. Two of our visitors joined by the end of the meeting: Welcome to JAXMQG Chris and Sarah! Diana and Susan, hope you join us next month! And as always, it was great to see all the familiar faces, and we missed a few!

Meeting “need to know” bits for those who missed it:

-The guild will be ordering new Guild Tshirts, light gray V-Neck Cotton shirts with the guild logo screen printed on the front. Members interested signed up for the size they want at the meeting yesterday. If you were absent but you would like a shirt, contact Candi.

-Margaret D. presented the mock-up design for the guild’s QuiltCon Community Quilt Challenge, and it was a beauty! Designed by Franci and planned by Margaret, Laura and Franci, the quilt is well under its way to be sewn! Members interested in participating in sewing the quilt are encouraged to attend the guild’s upcoming sew-ins: July 16th and August 6th at Pablo Creek Library from 10 -2:30. Fabric and patterns will be there. Just bring your sewing machine and happy spirit and let’s sew together.

-Franci, our hostess extraordinaire, presented what is happening in July! We will be having a Summer Splash party! (Sounds refreshing, doesn’t it?) There will be pizza, ice cream, lemonade and snacks! Games and Prizes too! What to bring: 1- A happy attitude 2-a desire to have fun and get to know your fellow members (and we have many faces, let’s show them how much fun we have!) 3- two Fat Quarters and a notion for the Left Right Center Game 4-blocks for our charity quilts drive if you made any (see info below).

July 2022 Charity Quilts Blocks Challenge:

You have 2 options to participate in the charity quilt blocks challenge, make one or make both:

1- Pineapple Crush: This is a paper pieced block, using only yellow and white. Franci handed out the paper pattern at the meeting and will have more at our sew-in on July 16th if you are interested in getting the pattern. If you are new to paper piecing, come to the sew-in and we will show you how to do it!

2-Quilt of Valor Quilt Block: Make a block of any design of your choosing that is 12.5” unfinished. Use only red, white and blue (patriotic prints or not but please stick to the colors!).

The door prize for the June meeting was provided by Margaret D and won by Teddy B, she looks happy to have won! Thank you, Margaret!

And speaking of winning, Deb B. won the beautiful name block lottery! Look how awesome these blocks look, Deb looks great too!

And as usual, we had fantastic quilts during our show and tell, we really have many talented members!

And if all this fun was not enough, we had Deb B. give us a demo/ mini-class on how to make a collage quilt using her own beginner-friendly vase pattern. It was sew much fun! Thank you, Deb!

Upcoming events:

Sew-In July 16th 10 -2:30 at Pablo Creek Library.

Summer Splash Party July 31st at 2 PM at Spring Glen United Methodist Church.

Sew-In August 6th 10-2:30 at Pablo Creek Library.

Inspired by Architecture Workshop with David Owens Hastings: Zoom from Home. Sign-up for class will open on July 11th.

I hope our time together is inspiring you as it is inspiring me, and hope to see you all soon!
