What a meeting we’ve had! 18 members and three visitors were in attendance. Two of our visitors joined on the spot. Welcome (back) Lynne Gorden and welcome Teddy Broeker. Brab, we enjoyed having you visit with us and hopefully we can see you again soon!
The BIG news from the meeting is that we collected $3325.50 for UNICEF Ukraine! What an amazing thing! Many thanks to Lisa Hamilton and Christina Flores for spearheading this effort and doing all the behind the scenes work to make this a success! Thanks also to Adele Rivers and Franci Sheffiled for joining Lisa and Christina at the JAX Art Walk to solicit donations. Thanks to First Coast Quilt Guild and St. Augustine Piecemakers for contributing to the cause. Thanks to every JAXMQG member who donated and/or solicited donations: you all made this effort a big success! And of course, thank you to everyone who donated or entered for an opportunity to win the beautiful quilt! And now I feel like someone who won an award and is thanking everyone 🙂 But truly, a heartfelt thank you! Once treasurer Margaret gets funds deposited, a donation will be made.
And -drum roll here-……………We have a winner!!! Look how happy Billy Gascon looked when Kathy delivered his quilt! Use it in good health sir!
Speaking of winners! Eva Greenfield won the door prize donated by Franci. I failed to take a photo of this, but believe me, excited faces were abound!
And one more winner from the May meeting: Margaret Douglass won the patriotic Flying Geese block lottery! Have fun making that quilt, Margaret!
And while I am speaking of Margaret Douglass, she volunteered to spearhead our QuiltCon Community Challenge! We will hear at the next meeting about her plan and how we all can contribute into making the charity challenge quilt! Thank you, Margaret and everyone else, stay tuned!
June Block Lottery Challenge: A 12.5-inch (unfinished) block of the design and technique of your choosing. Must be made in two solid colors only: black OR white, paired with a solid color that has a name that starts with the first letter of your name (first or last). Example: Laura can do lavender with white. Candi can do cardinal red with black. Franci can do fuchsia with black. If your first name is hard to find a color for, use your last name!
During the meeting, we had a lively discussion about entering quilts into a quilt show! It may seem like a big step, but it is fun to do it! Try it with the local upcoming show at QuiltFest here. Deadline for entering quilts is July 25th.
Note: Due to Deb being under the weather, the collage class was postponed. I will make the announcement when we have a new date. We all hope you are feeling better quickly, Deb!
After the wonderful show and tell we had (see photos!), Adele talked to us about her experience visiting QuiltCon and tips and techniques she learned during a lecture there about photographing quilts. Thank you Adele! We are excited for QuiltCon 2023 in Atlanta!

Next Sew-In: June 11th at Pablo Creek Library 10-2:30.
