Join us in support of #QuiltsforPulse

Please join us in supporting the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild in their #QuiltsforPulse charity drive. We are asking everyone; members, non-members and other quilt guilds to join us.

The Orlando MQG is asking for contributions to their quilt drive to support their community in the wake of the shooting at Pulse nightclub on June 12. They’re asking for a minimum of 102 quilts — one for each survivor, and one for the families of each victim who perished. Any quilts that surpass that number will be given to first responders, and then distributed to LGBT organizations in Orlando.

The Jacksonville Modern Quilt Guild is looking into some locations where we can hold sew-in’s that will give everyone the opportunity to work together on the Orlando Quilt project. Our goal is to have someplace available every single day in July. Whether we can enlist some local shops to open up space, or invite (and invade) some of the Seven Sister Guilds during their sew-ins, this will be a community effort of love to reach out to as many as possible. We’ll keep you updated and begin compiling a calendar of locations. If anyone has a suggestion or wants to host at one of the locations, send us an email at jaxmqg@gmail.com.

In the meantime, one of our JMQG members, Jen, as already organized some sew-in times at the local South Mandarin branch library at the dates and times listed below to work on the quilts. Anyone is welcome to come and help out or drop off any blocks you may have made.

  • June 18 – Conference Room – 1:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • June 25 – Room A – after the general meeting 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • July 2 – Room B – 11:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

If you are unable to participate but still want to help out, here is a list of things they could use:

  • Batting
  • Low Volume Fabric
  • Large Modern Fabric Scraps for backing
  • Prepared Binding

We appreciate any type of participation you can give. If you have any questions regarding JMQG’s participation in the drive, you can email us at jaxmqg@gmail.com.
